The Statue of Liberty is a statue in New York harbour. It is situated on Liberty Island, greeting those returning home as well as immigrants. The Statue of Liberty is also colloquially known as “Lady Liberty”. It was consecrated on 28th October 1886 but was originally intended to be completed in 1876 to celebrate the centenary of America’s Declaration of Independence. The Statue of Liberty is a gift from France to the United States.
