The Ruhr Museum is a natural history and art history museum in the city of Essen. Since October 2008 it has been situated in the Kohlenwäsche (coal washing factory) in the Zeche Zollverein (Zollverein Colliery) World Heritage Site. It was known as the Ruhrlandmuseum until 2007, but was demolished to make way for the new buildings of the Folkwang Museum. The current Ruhr Museum was converted according to a design by the architect Rem Koolhaas. The museum includes departments devoted to geology, archaeology, history and photography.
