The Red Dot Design Museum is located in the former boiler house of the Zeche Zollverein (Zollverein Colliery) in Essen. The building was converted by Norman Foster and is now a design museum receiving approx. 120,000 visitors per year. Within a surface area of 4,000 m2 over 1,000 product-design exhibits are displayed, mainly articles used in our daily lives. An award ceremony takes place annually, in which the prize-winning products are displayed in a 4 week special exhibition, and then integrated into the permanent collection.
