Hagia Sophia
The Hagia Sophia is a former Byzantine church in Istanbul, Turkey. The church later became a mosque and today it is a museum (“Hagia Sophia Museum”). The Hagia Sophia was erected during the 6th century as a dome basilica and was the central church of the Byzantine Empire. In the 16th and 17th centuries, following the conquest of Constantinople and many reconstructions, it served as the central mosque of the Ottoman Empire.
