Duisburg’s footbridge spans the basin of the inner harbour. It was constructed by the engineering consultancy firm Schlaich und Bergerman and is a suspension bridge. Unusually for a bridge, it is movable. Using an hydraulic system, its radius of curvature can be raised, so that ships can pass through. Suspended by steel cables with a transparent rib structure, the bridge has a light, transparent appearance.
