The Central Library of Dortmund City and Provincial Library lies in Dortmund, directly opposite the main railway station. In 1907 the library was founded as the “Wilhelm-Auguste-Viktoria Library of the city of Dortmund”. After the original building had to be demolished, a new building, designed by architect Mario Botta, was opened to the public in1999.
