The Atonium is a landmark of Brussels. It stands as a symbol for the nuclear age and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The Atonium was built for the first world exhibition after the Second World War – Expo ’58. The chief architects were Andre and Michel Polak. In March 2004 the building began a process of renovation including replacement of the aluminium panelling with rust-free stainless steel panels. In February 2006 the Atomium was re-opened to the public.
